Considering the fact that they haven\u2019t been talking that long, toddlers sure manage to ask a lot of questions throughout the day. While the constant barrage of \u201cwhy\u201d can certainly tire you out, your tot\u2019s curiosity is a good sign.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Baby<\/span> grows, their<\/span> brain is growing along with them<\/span>, working on critical thinking skills and making connections about the world around them<\/span>. This means lots of questions for you, and no matter how knowledgeable you are, there\u2019s a good chance there will be one or two you won\u2019t know the answer to.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Baby<\/span> asks a question, and you\u2019re not sure of the answer, there are a number of different ways you can respond. Here are some scenarios you might face each day, and ideas for how to answer these types of tricky inquiries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat <\/strong>is<\/em><\/strong> that?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The world around Baby<\/span> is still very new, and they still looks<\/span> to you to identify the unfamiliar things they sees<\/span>. Sometimes, the answer might be easy, but other times they might<\/span> point something out that you can\u2019t really identify either. One way to handle this is to let Baby<\/span> take the lead by asking them<\/span> what they thinks<\/span>. While this method may not bring you any closer to an answer, it will give them<\/span> the chance to think, and their<\/span> answers will give an interesting window into the way they thinks<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhere did my toy go?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Suddenly, Baby<\/span> is frantically searching for a toy they hasn\u2019t<\/span> played with in months, and they needs<\/span> to know where it is right this instant. This might catch you off-guard, and leave you feeling just as clueless. In this scenario, the best answer is an honest one. Tell Baby<\/span>, \u201cI don\u2019t know, but I will find out.\u201d Though it\u2019s not an instant resolution, they will<\/span> appreciate your help, and looking for the toy together will help them<\/span> practice their<\/span> patience.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is the sky blue?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This is a common one for toddlers. After all, how did this big thing get up there, and who the heck decided it should be blue? In general, though, toddlers often ask questions about the physical makeup of the world that adults might just accept without really knowing the reason for it. You may not readily know the answer to these kinds of questions, but a quick Internet search can fix that, and looking for an answer <\/span>together<\/span><\/em> can help to encourage them<\/span> to look for answers. The explanation may go as far over Baby<\/span>\u2019s head as the sky itself right now, but they will<\/span> be satisfied with having a response, and who knows? Maybe some of it will stick in their<\/span> head.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWho made this?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

If Baby<\/span> suddenly has a pressing need to know who made the first spoon while you\u2019re out to eat, you may not have the time (or the will) to go through the process of looking up the answer. Sometimes, it\u2019s fine to just say, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d Admit defeat. They will<\/span> move along to another question soon enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen will I be big enough?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Perhaps you\u2019re at a theme park and Baby<\/span> wants to know when they will<\/span> be tall enough to go on one of the big kid rides.
