Hemorrhoids are varicose veins in the rectum that cause discomfort or pain when you sit down.<\/p>\n

What causes it?<\/h2>\n

A certain amount of pressure on the rectal wall can make certain veins in the rectum swell and itch. Hemorrhoids are more common in pregnancy<\/a> because the growing uterus can put pressure on the rectal wall. Constipation<\/a>, which is also common in pregnancy, also applies pressure to this area, which can make them worse or cause new ones.<\/p>\n

Tips?<\/h3>\n

Eat more fiber and stay hydrated, as hemorrhoids are strongly linked to constipation. Try to spend less time on the toilet because this can strain varicose veins. Set aside some time to soak in a warm bath, and use topical creams like Preparation H. Just make sure that your healthcare provider is OK with any medication you elect to take, and let your provider know if you notice blood in your stool.<\/p>\n
