This limited sight range is the perfect distance for helping <span class=\"pronoun-them\" data-pronoun=\"them\">them<\/span> get started on <span class=\"pronoun-their\" data-pronoun=\"their\">their<\/span> first big job in life, though &#8211; bonding with you, your partner, and any other important caregivers in <span class=\"pronoun-their\" data-pronoun=\"their\">their<\/span> life. Feeding and snuggle-time are perfect opportunities for you and <span class=\"pronoun-baby\" data-pronoun=\"baby\">Baby<\/span> to lock eyes as you get the chance to breathe in that newborn smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other than staring deeply into your eyes, <span class=\"pronoun-baby\" data-pronoun=\"baby\">Baby<\/span>\u2019s hobbies for the next few weeks are probably going to be mostly limited to eating, pooping, and &#8211; if you\u2019re lucky &#8211; sleeping, but this limited schedule should give you the chance to get used to having a newborn in the house. Getting used to having a new baby around can be an adjustment, whether <span class=\"pronoun-baby\" data-pronoun=\"baby\">Baby<\/span> is your first or your twenty-first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you get to know <span class=\"pronoun-baby\" data-pronoun=\"baby\">Baby<\/span> and <span class=\"pronoun-they\" data-pronoun=\"they\">they gets<\/span> to know you, <span class=\"pronoun-their\" data-pronoun=\"their\">their<\/span> reflexes, like the startle reflex, rooting reflex, and plantar reflex, are helping <span class=\"pronoun-them\" data-pronoun=\"them\">them<\/span> navigate the bigger, wider world outside of the womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some parents spend every waking hour during pregnancy planning and preparing and baby-proofing for their babies\u2019 arrivals, while others take a more \u201cwe\u2019ll cross that bridge when we get there\u201d approach. Your baby is probably only exploring with <span data-pronoun=\"their\" class=\"pronoun-their\">their<\/span> eyes and ears so far, but as <span data-pronoun=\"they\" class=\"pronoun-they\">they gets<\/span> older, <span data-pronoun=\"they\" class=\"pronoun-they\">they will<\/span> grow more and more active and curious. It never hurts to get a head-start on baby-proofing. For now, though, the biggest danger will probably come from how much <span data-pronoun=\"baby\" class=\"pronoun-baby\">Baby<\/span> isn\u2019t moving: make sure there isn\u2019t anything (including fabric) that could fall into the crib with <span data-pronoun=\"baby\" class=\"pronoun-baby\">Baby<\/span>, and always supervise time with pets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Milestone &#8211; Moves head from side to side <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the first things anyone learns about newborns is that it\u2019s important to support their heads, since they don\u2019t have the neck strength to do it for themselves. You\u2019ll still need to support <span class=\"pronoun-baby\" data-pronoun=\"baby\">Baby<\/span>\u2019s head for <span class=\"pronoun-them\" data-pronoun=\"them\">them<\/span> for a while, but moving <span class=\"pronoun-their\" data-pronoun=\"their\">their<\/span> head from side to side is a sign that <span class=\"pronoun-they\" data-pronoun=\"they\">they is<\/span> already building up <span class=\"pronoun-their\" data-pronoun=\"their\">their<\/span> neck strength.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations on the new arrival!
